The Reality Of Addiction
Whenever I hear someone saying that I’m addicted to this or that then the first thing that comes to my mind is that why people get addicted to something? how they get addicted to something? and what is the basic meaning of addiction? Then I start researching it and things get itself reformed according to my understanding, so today let me tell you the Reality of Addiction.
But before understanding the concept of addiction, let us
first understand the concept of fragile end antifragile. The basic meaning of
fragile is weak or something breakable, let us connect this definition
with our life, pain, and values. Children have a low tolerance of pain because
their whole motive goes in avoiding that pain and that is the reason why even a
small amount of pain hurts the child for the pain is the worst thing. Teenagers
have a higher tolerance of pain because they understood that some amount of
pain is necessary for them to achieve their motives. Like if I will do this then I will get that. But
they cannot hold the pain for more than a certain period or over a long period
of time. And when they get hurt, they start feeling broken and start
finding things meaningless or just a waste of time. Adults have an incredibly great
amount of pain tolerance. They agree that leading a meaningful life requires pain,
it is inevitable to avoid pain. They understand the pain and its value and that is what makes them antifragile. But if you think that you are 18 and you will become antifragile, it
is not possible because it requires time to understand things and feel them. Maybe when you will turn 20 or 21 then you may become anti-fragile or maybe not. A
child’s values are Fragile for them even a losing ice cream meant to have some amount
of pain. Teenager’s values are neither fragile nor antifragile. They want to
become antifragile, but they cannot hold the pain for too long and times they
can hold it. An Adult’s values are anti- fragile, they understand that pain is inevitable,
and happiness is a temporary expect to live life. Happiness may end but the pain would not.
Now if you have understood this concept then let us get back to our topic of addiction, the basic definition of addiction is: “when a person cannot live without a particular thing or a person, in turn, they become habitual of that thing”. One person gets addicted to a thing [can be anything] when his or her pain is not tolerated by them, basically to escape out of nihilism people took the support of things like drugs, falling in love with a person or any other thing. You might have heard that drug addiction is common in teenagers, but you might not be knowing the reason behind it, let me tell you: As we have already talked about teenager’s values, they are neither fragile nor antifragile. So, they try to understand the pain but if they fail in understanding them, they fall into nihilism and then they take support of things like drugs which will not let them feel the pain and this is also the reason why a teenager cannot easily get out of any addiction. You also do not know why drugs are not given to children or consumed by them. you might think how stupid I am, but this is a valid question. Let me answer it again: A child's values are very fragile if he will get the drugs or any pathway through which he or she can get out of pain and forgot pain then it will be the most precious thing for them.
The first step of
addiction is an obsession, it the stage, when you start liking a thing and get, are
getting habitual of it. And at this stage,, you will not realize that
you are obsessed but gradually this obsession will become your addiction. The
time you will understand that this particular thing will not let you feel the pain then
this is an obsession that will soon become your addiction. The second step is definitely addiction, you never know when your obsession becomes your addiction and that is why it is
truly said that “Obsession is the cause, but addiction is the effect”. One
should not hate pain till the time it is meaningful and most of the time it is
meaningful [ exceptional cases are there]. There is always a reason behind your
pain, your suffering, and you must find that out. You must understand that
people make mistakes, maybe you are addicted to something I am not saying it is
good, but it is fine. But now do not play hide and seek with pain, give that
pain value. I am guaranteeing you that it will be your last addiction. Understand
your flaws, fault and bad habits try to find meaning within them,, and as soon as
you understand why you are suffering from this pain? why you are going through
this hardship? why you are having so much pain? That time you will not fall
into nihilism even after taking drugs and that is the point where you will get out of that addiction in
a snap. Do not try to escape from Nihilism, try to live with it for a while, and
then you will automatically understand that pain is inevitable, and addiction
is nothing but avoidance of pain.
Thank you.
Stay safe.
Loads of strength.
